Barriers and Methods for Inter-Professional Healthcare Understanding inter-professional healthcare In the field of healthcare, inter-professional healthcare is important while facing every patient. In this report, it will list out what is inter-professional healthcare, methods to implement and consider the benefits and the barriers to the implement. Definition of inter-professional healthcare Inter-professional healthcare seems to be a hard term; in fact, it is used to refer to â€Å"two or more professions working together as a team with a common purpose, commitment and mutual respect† (Freeth et al. 2005, cited in Dunston et al., 2009, p. 6). In a simple explanation, inter- professional healthcare is a group of medical professions work as a team and request teamwork to achieve their goal, as known as cure the patients. The definition of teamwork is Interdependent performance become possible which according to actual behaviors, cognitions and attitudes. (Sallie et al., 2013) Methods used to implement inter-professional In teamwork, three essential, overlapping jobs are need, which is coordination, communication and shared responsibility (Hayes, 2014). Here are some methods can be do during inter-professional healthcare. Team discussion Problem solving through a team discussion is one of the methods. During discussion, defining problem and goals decision is needed which making a clear direction for the team for follow and achieve it. Also, opinions seeking about the problem form appropriate profession may help the team to discuss and expand the problem. Each member contribute their own unique professional perspective may make the problem become easier to solve. After giving opinions and advices, it is possible to plan out some possible solutions or patient handling plans. Giving opinions about each solution then evaluate them and choose the best one to process. At the end, summarize the plan and agree on distribution of tasks across team members (Hayes, 2014). Conflict management Another method can be apply on inter-professional healthcare is conflict management. No matter in any discussion, conflict may be occur and disturb the progress of problem solving. The meaning of professional diversity is â€Å"the conflict is inevitable, but also necessary† (Hayes, 2014, p.9). According to helpguide.org, the ability to successfully resolve conflict as follow: manage stress as soon as possible while people still remain alert and calm, self-emotion and behavior management, the feelings which people being expressed has to be careful, also be aware of and respectful of differences. (Conflict resolution skills, n.d., para.9) Benefits of inter-professional healthcare For benefits, it can be divided into four groups: patients, health care professional, educators or students, and health care delivery system. Patients With healthcare professional applied inter-professional healthcare, the outcomes of patient are improved. Also, the patient will have an effective care and reduce in costs and mistakes form the professional (Menken, 2011). Health care professional In health care professional, continuous interaction, coordinated efforts and knowledge sharing among the professionals is needed during work (american speech-language-hearing association, n.d., para.1). With inter-professional healthcare applied, the professional may improve the skills which mention above. Furthermore, according form world health organization, it point out that each professional may learn about, with and from different professional members (world health organization, 2010) Health care delivery system According to American speech-language-hearing association, it point out that the health care system are facing an impact on several problem, such as the health care practitioners requirement increase, the number of health care practitioners having retirement in increase, greater demands being placed on existing health care professional by increasing complexity of patient care, ETC.(American speech-language-hearing association, n.d., para.2).With inter-professional healthcare, the human resources can be used to move toward optimal health-services and better health outcomes (world health organization, 2010). Barriers to inter-professional healthcare implementation Difficulty may appear while doing inter-professional healthcare. Here are some examples which may cause it hard to proceed. Miscommunication Quoting the words form a physician leader at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, â€Å"the communication line just wasn’t there. We thought it was, but it wasn’t. We talk to nurses every day but we aren’t really communicating.† (gittell, 2009, p.5). Communication is the main part in inter-professional healthcare. it is needed in every case, which helps the healthcare professional to understand the problem, doing discussion and plan a solution. When communication is misleading, problem solving will be disturb and hard to process. Miscommunication may occur in these situations: things happen in high frequency of changing and working with different professional. Things in rapid changing Things happen which rapidly changing may lead to miscommunication. Quoting the words from a nurse administrator at Massachusetts General Hospital â€Å"miscommunication between the physician and the nurse is common because so many things are happening so quickly.† (gittell, 2009, p.5). Giving an example, the patient in and out of the hospital is so quick. Working with different professional Every patient is a unique case, the need of the patients are different. As a result, the healthcare professional needs to work with different professional with different background. Giving an example, caring a diabetes patient in general needs a dietitan, oral health, podiatrist, GP, physiotherapist, MRS, OT and optometrisits. With different professional background, each of the professional has different level of understanding in the problem. The hardest part is let the team member understand other professional view. Quote back the physician leader from about, they seem to be communicating with nurses every day, but they cannot understand their words (gittell, 2009, p.5). For suggestion, different professional have to explain to the team member their wording because some of them may not appear in other field. Conflict management Good management of conflict may improve the effectiveness of the team, in opposite, bad conflict management may become a barrier to implement inter-professional healthcare. According to helpguide.org, one or both parties feel a dangerous in a situation is a conflict (Conflict resolution skills, n.d., para.6). in a simple way to express, two members of the team arguing the treating method for a patient and both members don’t give off their opinion. If the conflicts cannot be solved, it continues to fester (Conflict resolution skills, n.d., para.6) and have a possibility of harming the health of the patient. Clam the member down, discuss the problem again and finding the most suitable solution is the idea of solving a conflicts. Conclusion In conclusion, due to the problem we are facing in healthcare industry, such as healthcare professional loss, funding in medical field, ETC., inter-professional healthcare may become more important and be the best way to use most of the human resource, But there are some difficulty to proceed. Failure in the American Dream in the Great Gatsby by F. Scoot Fitzgeral

The American Dream as shown in The Great Gatsby has been proven by F. Scott Fitzgerald to be an unattainable belief in the â€Å"Pursuit of Happiness† through the fault of morality. Typically, happiness is being content with ones standing in life regarding wealth, family, love, class, and friendship. Throughout the 1920’s, the decline in morality had shaped the dream into a materialistic goal by accumulating wealth, love, social class, friendship and power. The novel never mentions a specific dream or goal that was to be obtained, only the idea. Bewley has stated, â€Å"In Gatsby’s America, the dream is undefined to itself.† (Bewley 12). The American Dream is not something that is merely obtained. It is much like a destination; the journey is what makes the dream come to life. Focal characters such as Gatsby, Daisy, and Tom, each go through a journey to understand what happiness is and how their morality ultimately failed them in the end. Each character wa nts what they cannot have. Although the characters are thought to have no morals at all, it is the morals they have that lead them to understand they cannot be happy with themselves. Gatsby’s theory of happiness was based on the idea of wealth, love, and power. Residing on the West Egg, home to the new rich – his intentions were questionable. Without fully disclosing where his money came from, most assumed Gatsby earned his wealth from the Prohibition. Something money could not buy was power. Although those who lived in the West Egg were extremely wealthy, they did not hold the power that those from the East Egg held. Power came from old wealth, money brought down from generation. Having already obtained wealth, the only thing he needed was power and love. To obtain power, he needed somet... ...times they feel they need to be set aside to achieve what they were setting out for. Daisy, Gatsby, and Tom had all interloped within someone's life - a place where they had to business being. Gatsby failed to understand that he couldn’t make Daisy fall in love with him. Even if she did, he would not have had the power he was looking for anyways – Daisy would. Although Daisy appeared to be the foolish character, she knew what she had done wrong and used her feelings as a way to hide how she really felt. Tom failed to achieve happiness because he felt as if he always needed something more to grasp on to. Without the journey each character took, none of them would have realized what made them into who they were, even if they didn’t completely understand it themselves. Happiness was to be content, and in a time of endless possibilities, the impossible has been found.

Valencia College Exploration Paper

My education is my best and only way to make my life work right. I am now currently going to Valencia College working towards my Associate Degree in communications. My current major is Communication, although Broadcast Journalism is what I will most likely pursue for my Bachelor Degree. Communication/Broadcast Journalism is one of the most important careers today. Today, broadcasters are used in almost every aspect of our lives: radios, television, telephones, and the newspaper. The college that I plan to attend after I obtain my A. A. Degree at Valencia is the University Of South Florida (USF). Continuing my education is important and absolutely necessary to my personal as well as life-long career goals. The university that I plan on attending after graduating from Valencia will be USF. When I transfer to the University of South Florida I will continue my degree and maintain working. Valencia is a great place to begin, but I feel to become successful in my career I need to graduate with a degree from a university. The University of South Florida has approximately 58,000 students and a total of 2,123 faculties which makes the ratio of student/faculty 19:1. As one of the nation's best universities, USF is a much diversify college. USF offers strong factors in drama/theater group, student-run newspaper, radio and television station, choral group, marching band, student government, campus activities board, USF ambassadors, student admissions representatives, national fraternities, national sororities. The university also offers many graduate programs leading to masters and doctoral degrees. USF is about 72 miles from my location in Kissimmee. USF provides on campus housing with a capacity of 1,948 students therefore I will be either living on campus or apartments close by. There are students that live in traditional-style halls, suite-style halls, apartment communities, and unique communities. The five aspects of this university that interest me are: late-night transport/escort service, multicultural student body, easy access to and from home, many programs to participate in, and of course intramural sports. As with all colleges, transferring students have a great chance of getting accepted, rather than freshmen students who directly applying. The reason for this is that most core classes or prerequisites can be taken at another university and then those applicable credits may be transferred. The prerequisites that I must take before entering to USF to pursue my B. A. Degree in Broadcast Journalism are: 9 hours of Communications (ENC1101, ENC1102, and SPC1608); 9 hours of Humanities; 6 hours of Mathematics; 6 hours of Science; and 6 hours of Social Science for my basic classes. Three of these prerequisite courses are: Communication, Math and Humanities. I will need to have a minimum of a 2. 5 GPA as well as any other basic transfer requirements to be accepted into this program. I have a restricted access major which means I must meet the requirements for entrance to my major. It’s not open to all students but only those who qualify. The steps that I will need to take to help myself transfer from a 2-year college to a 4-year university. Before completing my A. A. Degree I will meet with a counselor or advisor for graduation check and complete an application for graduation. Second I’ll complete an application for admission to USF and submit my application and promptly follow up on my application status. Third ensure all transcripts are sent from all current and prior colleges and ensure final transcript is sent after term completed. Then I’ll complete and finalize all financial aid information to be sent to USF and if required submit all scholarship information on applications. Last but not least finalize my acceptance to USF, fulfill any other requirements to my program, and then be sure to make it on time for orientation to my 4-year university. The total amount of my educational expenses at the conclusion of my bachelor's degree including expenses from my 2-year university roughly totals $25,000. At USF financial aid is applied for just as when I applied to Valencia. All financial aid forms are processed online, and you may even seek advising by a financial counselor. Once all papers processed and finalized then you will receive your grant or scholarship determined by the school. Other ways to pay for your expenses are taking out private loans, using school subsidized loans. Most students usually work and pay their way through school another way is applying for scholarships. USF offers all types of scholarship that is eligible for me the top five that I’ll apply for are: The USF Endowed Scholarship, John and Grace Allen Endowed Scholarship, Johnson Scholarship Foundation Endowment, Sweetbay Endowed Scholarship Fund of Excellence, and USF Transfer Student Achievement Scholarship. Once I have graduated with my Bachelors of Arts in Broadcast Journalism from USF two careers I would like to pursue are broadcasting sports, or a professional basketball player. The career I would most likely pursue after graduation would be as a Broadcast Journalism. The reason I would pursue a Broadcast Journalism in sports to be honest my dream is to make to the NBA, but I’m thinking reality even if I play college basketball doesn’t mean I’m going to get drafted so all that am left with is me pursing to become a sports analyst. Broadcast news analysts inform the public about news and events happening internationally, nationally, and locally. They report the news for newspapers, magazines, websites, television, and radio. A couple of their duties are to research topics and stories that an editor or news director has assigned to them, interview people who have information, analysis, or opinions relating to a story or article, and review articles to ensure their accuracy and their use of proper style and grammar. The expected job outlook with this career according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook is: Employment of broadcast news analysts is expected to grow by 10 percent from 2010 to 2020, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Growth is expected as news agencies prefer news analysts over traditional reporters to provide insight and commentary about the news. Employers generally prefer workers who have a bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications and have experience from an internship or from working on a college newspaper. The expected annual salary for a Broadcasting News Analysts as projected by The Occupational Outlook Handbook is $54,140. The person I interviewed was Professor Holmes Dubois, who is a speech teacher at Valencia College and I made contact with her through person. Ricardo Villiers 1. What experience or knowledge is required to do your job? Professor Holmes Dubois: Currently I have a master degree in English and Communication. To be a speech teacher you must have a Master Degree and 18hours credited to you. Ricardo Villiers 2. How do Valencia’s Competencies (think, value, communicate, act) apply to your career? Professor Holmes Dubois: Communicate and Act is the most important because I teach my students orally and in Public Speaking class they have to act to deliver the speeches so it’s not all about writing. Ricardo Villiers 3. What types of projects, assignments or deadlines must you meet each day (A typical day on the job)? Professor Holmes Dubois: I have to answer to a lot of student’s emails, grade a lot of papers, service of committees, plan class activity’s, and mentor and give advice to adjunct faculty. Ricardo Villiers 4. Does your job require overtime and what is your work schedule? Professor Holmes Dubois: Well there’s salary pay here at Valencia so there’s not overtime you work until the work gets done. I have to be here for class, office hours, and meetings if anything I can work at home so it’s very flexible. Ricardo Villiers 5. What preparation or courses did you find necessary or helpful upon entering the job? Professor Holmes Dubois: NONE!!! Ricardo Villiers 6. What is the biggest challenge you encounter? Professor Holmes Dubois: The biggest challenge I have encounter is student’s that are not motivated!!! Ricardo Villiers 7. What piece of advice would you give someone considering entering this occupation? Professor Holmes Dubois: Don’t think you’re going to change the WORLD!!! 8. Describe a minimum of 5 characteristics about this person’s job or work environment that interest/or doesn't interest you? The work environment is private, don’t like grading papers, the hours are very flexible; don’t want to work around students, not interested in teaching speech. To sum it all up writing this paper open my eyes and made me realize what I have to get done if I really want to be successful. I have been given the opportunity to choose my direction in life. If I really want this really bad I have go get it because it’s not going to be given to me, all I have to do is stay focus on the prize. Problems are going to be in my way that I will have to overcome through my lifetime. I’m going to take responsibility for my actions, to become a real winner in life. This paper guides me to make a successful turning point to a four-year university and then onto my career. If I decide to think about changing my major I know that I will not stray far from anything related to Sports. I want to be a part of sports so I’m going make it a part of me.

Gender Identity Is The Assumption Of There Being Binary...

Binary Logic: Another issue with research pertaining to sexual identity is the assumption of there being binary categories, such as gay/straight, male/female, etc. Research in this area is generally dichotomized (e.g. male/female, gay/straight), which can foster rigid identity assumptions, foster homogeneous understanding of research particiapnts and results, foster a divide between ‘normal’ and ‘deviant’ behavior, as well as mask inherent variation in different groups and populations (Johnson Repta, 2012). Bringing greater awareness to the complexity of sexual and gender identity could have transformative effects on how research is conducted. Some scholars in the social work field have begun to acknowledge and recognize the increasing evidence that sexual and gender identity are not binary categories, as well that categories might not even be an accurate way of understanding these phenomena (Burdge, 2007; Roche Gringeri, 2010). While an understanding that the binary mo del is flawed has gained some traction in social work research, the majority of researchers continue to ignore and disregard this possibility, consequently reinforcing this erroneous dichotomous paradigm (Rassi, 2011).
